Luxe Wedding at the Chicago Kimpton Gray Hotel
Allie and Andrew met through a mutual friend at a party and were always incredibly comfortable together from the start of their relationship. Allie says, “It was like as soon as we started dating we knew we would be together forever and could not wait to spend our lives together”.
The couple got engaged on a romantic trip to Italy. Andrew surprised Allie with a picnic overlooking the city of Venice. This was appropriate for the couple as they love to travel together. Their vows even mentioned one of the only struggles in the relationship revolving around who gets stuck in the middle seat on flights.
What were you most looking forward to at your wedding?
“Seeing each other for the first time” confessed Allie. The two shared their First Look on the second story of the Kimpton Gray Hotel in Chicago. The sophisticated Kimpton Gray Hotel is housed inside the early 20th-century New York Life Insurance Building in Chicago’s downtown Loop neighborhood. The property gets its name from the structure’s original Georgia Gray marble, which has been elegantly restored. Allie & Andrew captured portraits following their first look inside Vol. 39 – an elegant cocktail bar inside the hotel named for its vintage set of encyclopedias found during the building’s renovation which are now on display inside the venue.
What surprised you the most on your wedding day?
“We think how smoothly everything went! We were both not stressed out during the day which helped” said Allie. It helped significantly that the couple provided ample time to capture both wedding party and family portraits.
When asked if there was any advice the newlyweds would give to other couples planning their wedding, Allie suggests, “Don’t stress out about all the little details. Just enjoy it because it goes by way too fast!”
The Larry King Orchestra kept guests dancing the night away on the top floor of the hotel in the Argentine-inspired Boleo restaurant. During the couple’s First Dance, the retractable glass roof of Boleo opened allowing the warm evening air to fill the venue.
